Whether you are still attending school, you did not make matric, or if circumstances just did not allow you to complete your schooling, you should still know How To Succeed Without Matric. Learning how to succeed will define your future.
Most of us are taught to :
- learn hard
- get a college education,
- Find a good job
Well, in this day and age, there are not enough jobs for all the people with degrees. Thousands of people with degrees are sitting jobless or working in other professions.
The question then is, if varsity graduates cannot succeed in their field, can someone without matric succeed? And, the short answer is, Yes! Definitely yes!
It is absolutely possible to succeed without a degree and even without matric. But the long answer is that making it without matric, and even a degree — especially to the point that Gates, Zuckerberg, and Jobs did — is not a walk in the park. But, having said that, it is not rocket science either.
To have a truly successful career, who says that a matric or degree gives you a clear advantage? There are millions of people out there that have become very successful without a college degree. There are just as many who have a degree but entered a completely different field and had to learn it all from the beginning, and not in college.
Break the mold and succeed, despite them!
“Success is not to be pursued, it is to be attracted by the person you become.” Jim Rohn
The First thing you have to learn is that, despite not having matric or a degree, you are not a failure. You only fail when you stop trying. Everything that did not work out thus far, and in the future, should be regarded as valuable lessons. Lessons on your road to success.
Jim Rohn once suggested that we should be attending workshops by people that have failed as those would be valuable lessons in what not to do! Now that would be an achievement, turning your failure in one thing into a valuable business. So value yourself, you have a purpose and value.
Set Your Sail
There is a trap that many people fall into and it is one that you must beware of. Do not fall into the trap of blaming others for your situation.
Yes, something or someone might have had an influence in your situation but it is you that have remained in that situation. So They might have put you in that situation but it is you that stayed there.
How often have you heard people say “it’s the current financial climate” or “the government”, or the “markets”. Everything and everyone but them.
As Jim Rohn said, and yes, I am a great fan of the late Jim Rohn, “If you don’t like how things are, Change It! You are not a tree”
Decide on a course and set your sail to achieve it.
Formal Education vs Self Education
You have heard of the school of life, now learn about “the school of Google” Careful though. Many people think that you can learn anything on google, which, to a certain degree, is true but…. make sure that the information you are receiving from the site is correct. How many people use the site, are there comments and ratings?
It is said that a formal education will make you a living, but self education will make you a fortune. … but the truth is that anyone who chooses one over the other may actually forfeit the ability to get educated to begin with. We really must learn to look at them both as complementary, i.e, education with different purposes.
Formal education has it’s place and sets the basics up. Things like reading, writing, maths, research, language etc. Self education is more targeted at what you need to succeed in your chosen career path, It’s what your employers look for.
I believe that All education is self education. You can sit in school all day and learn nothing, no matter how hard your teacher tries. If you din;’t want to learn, you won’t.
Every type of lecture, homework, Academy lectures, watching YouTube training videos or whatever you do, you are not personally trying to educate yourself through that medium so I consider it self education.
I in no way advocate not obtaining a matric or even attending a college, academy or university. If you can, get the best formal education that you can.
What I am saying is that it is not the be all and end all of your education. If you cannot complete or did not complete matric however, it does not mean that you are condemned to menial jobs for the rest of your life.
Believe in yourself, dream great dreams, plan and most importantly, TAKE ACTION! Remember, you have not failed until you stop trying.
How long should you try for? Until!
That is until you succeed. Constant persistence is a phrase that I have come to value. Not every attempt will work and you will constantly have to modify your plan to meet the prevailing circumstances. Often the plan may not work at all and you will have to go back to the drawing board but, the PLAN failed, not you. You are still working at it and as I said earlier, you only fail when you stop trying. Changing plans does not fall into the stopped trying category.
One of the sorriest thing that I notice today is that the internet has almost made books redundant, and this is dangerous. Many things your read on the internet, that are presented as fact, are in fact opinions and a lot of them are untested and false.
Make sure that you test what you see on the internet by consulting a number of sources and, as most authoritative works were published in books first, find a number of books on the subject and read them to confirm the accuracy of what you watch and hear on the internet.
For some reason, some people do not like to take aptitude tests, maybe because they don’t want to be seen as weak in something, but here is the thing. How do you develop the areas that you are weak in if you do not identify them.
Not just that, you will also learn what your strengths are and you can use them to your advantage while developing your weaker points.
Aptitude test serve a positive purpose and are not something to be feared.
You need to choose a direction that you want your life to take. If you don’t choose, someone else will choose for you and it might not be the direction you would want to go in.
Once you have done your research and found what direction you want to have your life take, it is time to educate yourself in the skills this direction will need.
Some Career/Business Ideas
At this point, I am going to give you some ideas for a future that can be started if you do not have matric or other formal education.
- Home business/online business:
- Repair and make Furniture. There are many companies that would be just too happy for you to remove all their used pallets from their premises. Pallet furniture has become big business and you can make awesome furniture with even some basic hand tools.
- Bakery. Many workers buy food from roadside vendors that market their wares outside factories and businesses to serve the workers with low cost food. make Vetkeok and other food and cakes for the vendors to sell. you could even bake bread and sell it to the community.
- Grow vegetables in your garden to sell to the community.
- Make and repair clothes and school uniforms.
- Buy and sell second hand clothes.
- Open a child care center.
- Online business These are my favorite as you do not have to have a big outlay and you work from home, around your family. All you need is internet access and you are away. It can even be done on your Cellular phone.
- Affiliate marketing. This is my favorite and is my chosen business. For more on this career, click here.
- Drop shipping. Sell goods online.
- Blogging. Everyone has a hobby, a favorite subject. Start a blog and write about it. Teach people
- where to buy the cheapest food,
- how to grow veggies,
- how to make cloths,
- Where to go on cheap holidays,
- How to treat common diseases with natural medicines and herbs,
- How to raise chicken in your back yard.
If you can teach someone else how to do something you can blog and earn money.
One of the most important things to learn right from the start is to set goals. Without goals, there is no real plan. You need to know what you need to do and by when you must have started and completed the goal. The risk by not doing this is that you will never start, or if you start, you will never finish.
- S – Specific : Goals “how,” “what,” and “why”.
- M – Measurable: Goals you can measure and track your progress.
- A – Achievable: Goals must be realistic and obtainable but must still be a challenge.
- R – Results: Goals focus on outcomes not the steps to achieve the goal.
- T – Time: Goals must be achieved by a specific time
Prioritize what’s important. It’s easy to spend time on planning and systems but they do not get the job done. If it dos not bring you closer to your end goal they are nor a priority.
Write down the absolute essentials of what you need to do to achieve your goal. If you find yourself devoting considerable amounts of time to things that deviate from your course, Go back to your list and try to stick to it. You may find that you need to modify your list occasionally but this should not be a regular occurrence.
Sharpen the Sword
You get the job done much more efficiently if you are prepared. you can chop down a tree with a blunt axe but it will go much faster with a sharp axe. In other words, you are the sword, educate yourself.
Find A Mentor
Find someone that you look up to, that has the skill and experience that you wish you had. Such a person would be a good mentor, someone to point you in the right direction and help you when you lose direction.
When the going gets tough, the tough get going! If you quit you fail. If you persist, you will eventually succeed. It all depends on how much you want it.
If you have identified your business, got the training and have persisted with your endeavors, you will have a greater chance of success. Read and educate yourself, it is your secret weapon.
